When Europe’s biggest hip-hop festival takes place, every detail matters – especially the visual experience. As a specialized provider of video and media server technology with a strong focus on touring, REC Tec relies on proven solutions to deliver this exact experience. For the demanding operation of the Mainstage and the realization of the artists’ shows at Openair Frauenfeld, the use of PIXERA media servers by AVStumpfl was the perfect choice. Commissioned by Venon Project AG, who were responsible for the skyline, REC Tec carried out the video technical implementation in collaboration with Timo Martens and Andreas Schindler.

The Main Stage Setup

To power the massive LED wall – almost 10,000 pixels wide – the team deployed:

• Four PIXERA FOUR playout servers equipped with A6000 ADA graphics cards
• Two PIXERA TWO control servers with A4000 graphics cards

This configuration ensured flawless synchronization across all outputs. Thanks to PIXERA’s robust hardware and software platform, the integration of live camera feeds and real-time video effects was smooth and reliable. The result: dynamic visuals that elevated every artist’s performance.

Technical Highlights

A key focus was low-latency playback and stable processing of live signals – a major challenge given the scale and complexity of the show. PIXERA mastered this with ease. Highlights included:

• Alpha-matte particle effects for animated signage
• Efficient resource management with reference screens and layers
• Up to 40 layers in the main timeline without performance loss
• Multi-user setup for last-minute adjustments during the show
• Timecode synchronization for content, live feeds, and Notch effects

Even splitting screens across multiple servers was seamless, thanks to synchronized graphics cards and PIXERA’s advanced software architecture.
