140th anniversary of Grand Hotel “Europe”
On 28th of January, 2015 Saint-Petersburg’s hotel “Europe” celebrated its 140th anniversary. Grand Hotel was built upon the project of architecture Ludwig Fontana and opened on January, 28 in 1875. The members of royal families of Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Malaysia, descendants of Romanov’s family, famous politicians and also many artists and musicians were staying here.
The list of famous persons is more than one hundred.
To celebrate the hotel’s anniversary the organizers decided to create exciting multimedia show, which could show the hotel interior in old-time and present-day. Hotel guides, dressed up as pilots, met the guests and arranged the excursions for them. They showed the Grand Hotel to the visitors, told them its interesting history, myths and legends. There were video installations, which supplemented stories of the guides, along all the way.
3D mapping show on the atrium walls of the “Mezonin” restaurant powered by Viking company became the culmination of the event.
The faces and names of famous guests, architectures and hotel’s top managers appear on the walls. Then white crosses on the windows appears for a while, that was the symbol of the wartime, when the hotel “Europe” was used as hospital. Suddenly the fire from fireplace with using of video projection moved to the wall and turned into a colorful picture. At the end of the show the windows and the balcony opened and live musicians appeared infront of spectators.
All periods of the hotel existence mixed in one show, which would stay for a long time in memories of everyone, who was in the Grand Hotel that day.
On the event were used such technologies as: 9x powerful Christie Roadster projectors, 5 Wings Engine media servers with Wings Vioso, 2x LED screens with 4,55 mm pixel pitch and size 3*2 meters, 3x plasma panels, 2x video cameras. Technical support of the event was arranged by Viking company.
