Could you imagine a system where the connection between a touchpanel button and a contact closure is made with a single Drag & Drop operation? And could you imagine that you can also Drag & Drop connections between projector controls, building bus systems / light switches, DMX, Art-Net, MIDI, video or audio controls, PC controls, Databases and Outlook Calendars just to name a few examples?

How does Avio work?

Simple. Clever. Stable.

Avio is a network protocol and sophisticated control logic system developed for AV installations. The idea behind Avio is to bring all devices of an AV installation like media servers, show controllers, lights, effects, projectors, switchers, scalers etc. to the same abstraction layer.

All device ports and controls show up automatically in a tree view topology of the network and can be “wired” to each other using a simple Drag & Drop editor. It is possible to connect the button of a touch panel with a light bulb, but it is also possible to connect the gesture controls of a Microsoft Kinect unit with the video parameters of a media server. 

 




Network Topology

Decentralized. Fail passive. Automatic.

Do you know legacy AV control solutions where central servers were handling all connections and control logics? The disadvantage is that if this server fails the entire installation is down and maintenance is immediately required. Avio follows a different approach: Its design is decentralized which makes it fail-passive. There is no central server or computer required: Every Avio device communicates directly with the other devices and stores its connection information. If one device fails, only the affected connections are interrupted and the only maintenance work required is to exchange this single device and use a new one with the configuration (which is stored on an SD card) of the existing one.

Protocol

Automatic. Safe. Verified.

Avio is not just a simple control protocol converter. Once a device is embedded into the Avio network it is permanently monitored: Once a value is sent from one device to another, Avio makes sure that the values have arrived safely and uses a combination of different network technologies in the background to get this done. Data can be scaled and converted into different formats automatically or by using manual parameters.

Social Media Integration

Social media content can be integrated into the AVIO network and can be made available to all system components. Using AVIO this way, it is possible to use social media content as part of information displays in corporate environments or for realising interactive displays in museums or theme parks.

WEB BASED SOLID STATE MEDIA 

You would like to realize a sleek media/room control solution which can be controlled via web enabled devices such as smartphones or tablets? With Avio, your control solution does  not require any PC or server.

KNX INTEGRATION

In a lot of AV installation projects building functions such as lights, shades or climate are controlled via the KNX bus. KNX projects can be easily imported into Avio and the data points can be linked with all other components within the Avio network. Whatever they are: Control, visualisation or information.

MYO

Interaction and gesture control becomes more and more popular. The difference between a “nice effect” and a properly functioning solution is in the details. Depending on the application it is neccessary to select the right interfaces and sensors and sensor data has to be filtered and smoothed. Myo armbands are measuring muscle impulses and features gyros and earth field sensors and is natively interfaced in our control network Avio.

DATA RECORDING

Avio now features a new data recorder which can be used for example to record DMX or Art-Net streams. These streams can be imported in our software to use or modify them.

XML PARSING

Avio can parse contents and values from XML files. This can be used for example to retrieve values from a website and reuse it in the show control network.

MIDI

MIDI has been a standard communication protocol for music devices, audio consoles and digital music instruments for decades. We have fully integrated MIDI into our Avio network so that MIDI devices can be part of an installation or show.

KNX

Building automation integrated.

KNX has been one of the most established bus system used in building automation for more than 20 years. Avio allows to import the KNX configuration of the whole building making all building functions such as the lighting, air conditioning, security systems, weather data and more available on the Avio network.

DMX

DMX has been the standard protocol for controlling staging and installation effect devices such as moving heads, scanners, fog machines etc. for years. It is stable, simple and well established. Avio brings DMX universes into the Avio network and makes DMX inputs and outputs available to all other devices in the installation.

ART-NET

Art-Net is an Ethernet based communication protocol for staging setups and themed attractions. It is fully integrated into the Avio network for connecting Avio devices such as media servers to lighting consoles, or show control timelines to lights and other effect devices.

THIRD PARTY DEVICES

Ethernet. Serial. IR.

Third party devices such as projectors, switchers or scalers can be integrated via their RS232 or Ethernet connections into the Avio network. Avio wraps all the third party device functions and monitors their execution and device status. Drivers translate the commands back and forth on the Avio network and can be easily created using our own software wizard. Although configuring drivers is straight forward our support team is happy to assist if new devices have to be added.

Audio

Audio playback is an essential part of every installation. Avio can manage playback, volume controls and many other Audio tasks.

INTERACTION AND GESTURE CONTROL

Avio fully supports innovative human/machine interfaces such as the Microsoft Kinect interface, which uses 3D microphones, cameras and distance sensors to track people and their gestures. These gestures are connected and available on the Avio network for further use within the AV installation

PROXIMITY SENSORS AND POSITION TRACKING

Avio supports various interactive collaboration tools such as the Microsoft Kinect, RadarTouch, LeapMotion controller or the innovative Myo gesture control armband.

PC REMOTE CONTROL

PCs can be remote controlled and monitored using Avio.

SCRIPTING

Content Production. Playback. Timeline. Live. Control.

How can I get my themed attraction react on the prevailing weather conditions? How can I send E-Mails to visitors with information retrieved during their stay at the museum? Although Avio can handle a lot of automatic scaling and data converting sometimes it is needed to do some more sophisticated calculations and logic functions. Avio has its own Lua scripting interpreter which allows for sophisticated programming if something special is required. Although programming Lua is straight forward our support team is happy to assist.

There are numerous scripts already included with the Avio distribution such as E-Mail, Mathematics, Counter, Compare, Delay, Multiplex, Value Conversion, Weather or File I/O.

SCHEDULING

Would you like to automatically start and shutdown your AV installation? Would you like scheduled resets at given times? Avio offers quite a lot of scheduling functionality.

SIMULATION

Do you want to start programming and configuring prior to your IOBoxes arriving at the installation? Avio can fully emulate the device functions on computers and the configuration can be transferred onto the actual hardware at a later time.

RSS, XML AND FACEBOOK

Would you like to integrate social media into AV projects? Avio fully parses the data and makes it available to all your media servers, playback units, I/O devices and computers on the Avio network.

LOGGING AND DEBUGGING

In sophisticated installations, keeping track of what is happening at what time can be a challenge. The Avio network topology visualization gives you a clear understanding of which devices communicate with each other.

WEBSERVER

Are you used to accessing everything with your smartphone or tablet? Avio devices run their own embedded webserver which can be used for device configuration but can also host control websites which have been designed and customized with Touch.
