Show start from marker RS232 Commands

Postby sparkyb on 22. Feb 2008, 20:30

I have a SC Master 16 running a show off of a flash card that I am sending serial commands to from a PC. In the manual I see the commands aSNxxxMyyy# and aSIxxxMyyy# that seem like they should start the show xxx from the position marker with the remote index yyy. I wrote a timeline with several markers, but when I use those commands the show still always starts at the beginning. Has anyone used these command? Do the markers not work, or do I just misunderstand what they are supposed to do?

HI Sparkyb,

please, let me have a look of/ into the show you`ve programmed.
I need to check it/ the programming of it, to can get you any further information to the problem accordingly.
So, do send me this show-file to my (office) emailaddress, will you, please?

... for I will get you the answer, as soon possible ...

Thank you, - for doing so!

Greetings Lisi

I don't have your office email address. I have uploaded a sample show file you can download at http://sparkyb.net/temp/serialmarker.pt3 . It is a very simple example of the problem I have. This show contains a single timeline with 2 position markers. After each it sends a message to the display on the SC Master 16 and then stops. Directions for reproducing the problem are as follows:

1. Download this show onto a CF card.
2. Start up a SC Master 16 with this card in it.
3. Connect any device capable of sending serial commands (I've testing with a PC and second SC Master 16) to either RS232 port.
4. Send the command "aSI001#". The display should (correctly) say "No Marker"
5. Send the command "aSI001M001#" or "aSI001M002#". I'd expect the display to say "Marker 1" or "Marker 2" respectively, but it only displays "No Marker" as if it is run from the beginning, and not started at the specified marker.

Do I misunderstand how this feature is supposed to work? It appears to totally ignore the rest of the command after the show number. In fact, you can put almost whatever you want after there and it will still start the show as if you hadn't put anything. Another command I tried was the "aJMyyy#" command. This command did not do what I expected either, but it did do something, I'm just not sure what. The display changed to "Begin of Show" or sometimes "End of Show" but didn't seem to have anything to do with the markers in my show.

Also, I know that the command "aSAxxx#" works to add a show, even though it is not documented in the SC Master 16 manual. Are there any other undocumented RS232 commands I should know about?

Hello to all of you, Show-Control-Programmers!

I think it`s time, here to make a general statement - for it seems, this - still - isn`t generally known:
the fact, that markers do not work with ShowControl/ in SCnet-mode - only in DLC!
For interactive programming do use triggers instead!

So please, do keep this remembering!, when starting for your next project ....

Friendly greetings

Hello As Well -

Also, don't forget about the special functions command, located in the media pool, under SCNET network. It allows you a lot of interactivity beyond markers, although is geared largely toward show control hardware. There always seems to be a hidden use for this feature !

As Lisi mentioned, markers can also be your best friend.

Mike
